Phone Calls...

Normally, I cannot get Makenzie to talk on the phone to anyone.  When I ask her "Kenzie, do you want to talk to ______?"  She always replies with "No, Thank You."  (Jared said one day "Well, at least she is polite about it." ha ha) If I could get her to talk to someone on the phone, it would be for about 5 seconds flat and then she would say "Ok, talk to Mommy." throw the phone down and run.  However, lately, she has had some lengthy conversations on the phone.  The other day she called me at work and would NOT let me off the phone.  I didn't mind one bit b/c I love hearing her voice and the cute funny way she talks.  I was just antisipating the whole time, from past expereinces, when was she going to throw that phone down and run.  It never happened.  She will talk to almost anyone now for a long time.  When she comes to a point in the conversation where she can't think of something else to say, she will say: "Ummmmm,  hmmmmm, what else?, ummmmm... and if she has to make up something just to keep talking at that point, she will.  I didn't think she was going to be one of those girls who would gab on the phone for hours.  In one whole week she has me wondering.

Makenzie IS extremely polite and kind.  She is a very sweet girl and it is rare that I go somewhere and someone doesn't comment on how well behaved and sweet she is.
The way she randomly hugs someone, it could be someone she doesnt even know.  I can tell by the smile on their face afterward they probably needed that hug.  Or when we are out in public, she will just look at a stranger and tell them about her day or something great she has accomplished.  The stranger will look at me and say something like "Well isn't she just so sweet?"  Or the way she sings her church songs in the grocery store and the older ladies will just stop, smile and listen.  It makes their day to hear her singing.
Not only is she blessing mine and our families/friends life but complete strangers too.  I have said it one million times and will say it a million times more.  She is a joy and I am so blessed to have her, so fortunate she is mine.  : )

Major Fall... (well, major for Kenzie)

So, on Tuesday, Kenz had a MAJOR fall.  I know children have accidents and that its going to happen.  This surely wont be the last time, isn't it so scary though?  Makenzie was "exercising" on my elliptical.  She is not supposed to be on there b/c she could fall and get hurt.  Well... guess what...  She decides she is going to JUMP off of the elliptical (yes, I said jump).  Now if you all know what an elliptical looks like and can even imagine jumping off of it, then you know how dangerous that can be.  Next to my elliptical is my dining room set (this is all in my parents basement).  So, she jumps off the elliptical, crashes into the dining room table chair, knocks it over, busting her lip.  First she looks at my Dad in pure shock...
1.  It scared her
2.  As I said, she isn't to be on the elliptical and she thought she was in trouble.  BUT...PaPa let's her do what she pleases, within reason of course, but more than I would let her do.

Then there was screaming and yelling and crying and blood on her lip.  It was a mess.  Oma gave her ice to put on it and told her she had to hold it on her lip until Wheel of Fortune went off.  She laid there with the ice pack until she fell asleep.  I called Jared this morning and he said it is fine.  He said she has a little cut but that's it.  Hopefully it won't scar.

PS... I asked my Brother (Uncle Steven) to send me the "Pants on the Ground" video of Makenzie.  *fingers crossed* I can upload it onto her blog.

Lots of Church this weekend; Valentines Day...

Makenzie and I tried out two new Churches this weekend.  Saturday night, we went with my friend Angie Strickland-King to New Life.  I absolutely loved the sermon.  I took Makenzie to class first.  She took a few "comfort" toys with her.  As soon as she walked into the room a little girl walked up to her and wanted to see her toys.  Makenzie was sharing.  I was yelling "Bye Kenzie, see you later."  She wasn't worried about me leaving at all.  After service, I picked her up from her class.  She and the same little girl she was sharing her toys with at the beginning of class gave each other a BIG hug good-bye.  Instant friends.  Makenzie is so good at making friends.
On Sunday, we went with Jaimie Howells-Nelson to South Potomac which we also loved.  We are going back next Sunday.  My friend Sam Knott and her son Devin are supposed to join us.  I am excited about that too.

After Church we joined the whole family at Outback where we had lunch.  You wouldn't believe all of the presents Makenzie got for V-Day.  It was almost like Christmas all over again.  One thing that she got (which has become one of her favorite things next to stickers and chapstick) is those slimy sticker things that you put on your window during the holidays.  Her Sunday school teacher go them for her.  She got one from them at Christmas time also (a snowman).  You would have thought she hit the jackpot.  She STILL plays with that slimy window sticker snowman.  So, since her Sunday School teacher knew how much Kenz loved the window stickers, they got her Valentines day ones.  They cost $0.99 and they are her favorite.

Snow, Snow and more Snow…

First and foremost, happy birthday Pappy!!!  Today is Pappy’s birthday and Kenzie is headed out of the house with her Dad now to go see him.

Makenzie wanted to go out today with Papa and Uncle Steven to help shovel but not before giving me a photo op.  She was practicing poses as I went to get me camera.  If she wasn’t posing before I shot the picture, she made me retake it.  She would sing “ba ba ba ba FREEZE DANCE” and then freeze.  Uncle Steven even did it a few times too.

She has also been singing the infamous “Pants on the ground” song all week from American Idol.  I heard her sing it in her room while she was playing.  It was the first time I have ever heard her sing it.  I ran in there, I couldn’t catch my breath I was laughing so hard.  I asked her if she would sing it for her Dad and she said she would.  I called Jared and he hasn’t ever heard of it.  I guess “Pants on the ground”  is one of the many things she will pick up from school.  It isn’t a bad song.  As the radio station I listen to (91.9) during the day said “it actually has a good message.”  You shouldn’t be wearing your pants to the ground, hat turned sideways OR gold teeth.  You look like a “fool”.  It is just so funny to hear her sing it.  I plan to go buy one of those miniature recorders just to record her voice and post it on here.  It wont be long before all of the innocence is gone.

Speaking of that, I recently went back on her blog to one year ago.  I listen to the video where she talk about Uncle Ryan and being scared of him.  How she didn’t want to give him a hug.  She also tells me to “put the camera away”.  It was so precious and it really put it into perspective for me how much time has gone by and how much she has grown.

Another Big Snow Fall

This weekend we there was another big snow fall.  We got a pretty significant amount.  It covered everything pretty fast.  It started Saturday morning before I woke up.  I woke up to Makenzie screaming that it was snowing around 8 am.  She was so excited she wanted to put her snow clothes on that very instant.  Later Saturday night we went to play with Gracie and Taylor Dudley.  The snow was still coming down strong when I went to bed around 1 am Sunday morning.  Sunday school was canceled but church service was not. I had nursery that morning.  I only had Makenzie, Gracie, and Taylor (they wanted to come to church with Kenzie and I).  Later that day after lunch Taylor, Gracie and Kolten came over to sleigh ride down the hill behind Oma and Papa's house.  Uncle Steven, Mandy and Chris took the kids out.  I stayed back and watched baby Kolten.  It is quite a walk back to the big hill.

I remember going down that hill as a kid when Suzanne (Bailey's Nana) baby-sat us.  Me, Steven, Mandi, Brandi, Danielle, and Heather (poor Steven, no boys. LOL) used to ride that hill for hours.  It is so neat Makenzie gets to ride that same hill.  She came back all smiles and said she had so much fun, all sweaty from walking up that hill.  Just like I used to remember being.

Makenzie is such a joy and I feel so truely blessed.  There isn't a time I go somewhere that people don't say how well behaved she is and what great manners she portrays.  She has great manners, sometimes when I forget, she reminds me.  Example:  This weekend she brought me something.  I took it from her hands and she said "Mommy, now what do you say?  What are you supposed to say?  You are supposed to say thank-you, now aren't you?  Say thank you Mommy!"  Of course I do but I am laughing so hard.  She is 3 going on 23.  The things she is saying and putting together are so amazing to me.  She is a blessing and I will thank God for her everyday.  Nothing makes me more happy.

It was such a fun weekend.  I hear we are supposed to get more snow tonight.  What's that they say about global warming? : )
